“The Mixing Engineer’s Handbook”

As discussed in this YouTube video - we will rank and review this book, then leave three tips we’ve learned at the bottom.

First, we rank the book based on three factors:

  1. Enjoyability

  2. Applicability

  3. Literary Value

Score:

Enjoyability (5*)

This will depend on your interest in production. If you’re a nerd like me, this is the closest we’ll get to a bible.

Applicability (5*)

Everyday I use this book’s knowledge to improve my technique. Often times I come across industry experts who’ve arrived at similar conclusions through 20+ years of trial and error.

Why not take the shortcut?

I encourage you to incorporate each lesson into a practice session. Tinker and toy with the concept until you find a sound you like.

Literary Value (1*)

You won’t read this book for any literary gain.

Three Lessons from the Book:

  1. Addition via Subtraction

  2. Leave 12-15dB of headroom!

  3. You can’t put lipstick on a pig
