The Wisest Cow (Poem 002)

The Wisest Cow (Poem 002)

I once befriended a cow
As smart as a cow could be
Black or white on topics
Here appears myopic me

We stood in fields as friends
His wisdom always welcomed
The scratch of grass and wind
Laughs, they tickled me as I talked

Oh dear friend, how you speak so clear
And pronounce my language with sweetness
What shall I do, on your soon death date?
Your ideas have left me sleepless

***

NOW
I knew the day was here,
Hear my friend hold in his tongue
I ask the cow for guidance
How I’d walk and move along

Oh sweet friend, why do I feel such stutter?
Your paralyzing look
Don’t you have just one last quote
To quote inside my book?

So I turn to my pal,
The well-spoken cow,
Who has guided me to grace

Talked me off
The cliff enough
To save just what I say

Who stayed with me
Through boring scenes
And terrible movie ideas

Cultured me
On what it means
To need another skin

So I turn to my pal,
The well-spoken cow,
Who smiles and stares at me
I hug his spots
Then thank him a lot
And he says, ”Lewis I donspeak English”
