Purpose: To improve my writing skills by operating under a time constraint - consistently.
How: Write for ten minutes, timed. There is no post-time correction allowed.
Topic: Pick a small object to be given one day to your great-grandchild. Write a letter to that child explaining why you have chosen this object. (642 Things to Write About, book)
Dear Baby Girl,
Your life is precious to me, but I could do without your diaper smell…
I understand you have much to experience before you will understand this experience - but, before I die there is something you must see.
Here, in my hand, I hold a door to tranquility. This, baby girl, is a Smüth™ Stone. Given to me by the Great Mr. Glum, in a time I needed it most.
As you may have heard on the Virtual Reality Radio, this deep blue stone has brought me tremendous peace and guidance in my life.
Like the Great-Great-Great Mr. Glum said, it is smooth on all sides so that you may feel it when you are disturbed and lean on something less rough.
It doesn’t taste like much, maybe a hint of salt, but it may serve as a second heart to you.
Only after I spent five years with this stone did I discover that it indeed has a name.
This stone, known as Sodalite, is widely referred to as “The Poet’s Stone.”
